Stephen LaPierre

Stephen LaPierre, a native of Haverhill, Massachusetts, frequently can be seen painting the scenes of downtown Newburyport and on location throughout the North Shore. Primarily an En Plein-Aire painter (a term coined in the 1800's from the French for "in open air," referring to the artists that took their easels and painted out of doors, wanting to paint directly from nature); Stephen's fascination centers on architecture, historic buildings
and places and street scenes.

He has a passion to honestly portray the scenes before him and to capture the light of a particular moment upon his canvas in the tradition of the nineteenth century en plein aire masters.  Stephen's painting takes him to location around New England, Mexico, Chicago, New York City and the Florida Keys.
