Matthew Smith
Signed Limited Edition Copper Block Etchings

New Hampshire artist Matthew Smith creates copper block etching prints. Each print is made one at a time using all museum-quality and acid-free materials in limited editions. The prints are made by drawing and etching an image onto a copper plate. A sheet of heavy acid free paper is pressed onto the inked copper plate transferring a colored impression onto the paper. More than one plate may be used for additional colors. Framed in cherry, the smaller framed pieces measure about 17 x 17 inches.

Matthew Smith has always had an interest in fish and fishing. After studying fisheries management at the University of Rhode Island, he soon was captain of an 80-foot steel trawler and commercially fishing off the New England coast. Always using his free time for drawing, he eventually had the
opportunity to learn printmaking and show his art work. Then began a vocation change from catching fish to sharing his love of fish as beautiful, natural creatures.
